Overview

Context Highlighter is a Chrome extension that uses on-device AI (Gemini Nano) to explain, define, or summarize text you highlight on any webpage. All AI processing happens entirely on your device.

Data Collection

We do not collect, store, or sell any personal data. All AI processing happens on your device using Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano model.

• No accounts or sign-ups required
• No analytics or tracking scripts
• No cookies
• No data sent to external servers
• No highlighted text is uploaded anywhere
• No browsing history collected
• AI runs 100% on-device — no cloud API calls

How It Works

• Text selection: A content script detects when you highlight text on a page and sends only the selected text to the side panel. No other page content is read.
• On-device AI: Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano model processes the text locally. No data leaves your device.
• Side panel: Results are displayed in the extension's side panel for you to read or copy.

Permissions

• activeTab: Required to detect text selection on the current page.
• sidePanel: Opens the explanation interface in Chrome's side panel.
• storage: Reserved for future preference storage.
• Content script (all URLs): Detects text selection on any webpage. Only the selected text is sent to the side panel — no other page content is accessed.

Advertising

Context Highlighter displays non-personalized promotional links in the side panel. These are static links — not targeted based on your highlighted text, browsing history, or personal data.

Third-Party Services

Context Highlighter does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, or data collection services.

Data Storage

The extension does not store any text you highlight or any AI responses. All data exists only in the side panel during your session.

Children's Privacy

Context Highlighter does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13.
